Welcome to Enbrighten® Dinner Table Discussions

Designing for Dialogue: The ENBRIGHTEN® Approach

Classrooms are often structured for participation

But learning deepens through contribution

The distinction is about how ideas move between people

Designing for dialogue means designing for that movement

The Enbrighten® Approach consists of:

Interactions: How we engage shapes how we make meaning

Roles: Equity in dialogue is designed

Documentation: Thinking is made visible over time

Depth of Understanding: Conversation as a pathway to understanding

WHAT IS IT AND WHO IT SERVES

Enbrighten® Dinner Table Discussions were initially designed to empower disenfranchised learners but we quickly learned they benefit ALL learners. these discussions move beyond surface-level conversations to explore deeper, more thought provoking topics. They cultivate active listening, thoughtful speaking, and deep comprehension, while also nurturing social awareness, self-management, and relationship-building skills. These discussions encourage interdependent dialogue and foster practices that promote respectful coexistence and mutual understanding. They create a space where students feel seen, valued, and understood, fostering meaningful connections and promote a sense of belonging.

WHY IS MATTERS NOW

In a time when fast information, distraction, and artificial intelligence can unintentionally reduce opportunities for deep human interaction, many learners and communities are experiencing a growing disconnect from meaningful conversation, listening, and collective thinking. Enbrighten® Dinner table Discussions address this challenge by intentionally designing spaces where people slow down, engage thoughtfully with one another, and practice the human capacities that matter most.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

Enbrighten® Dinner Table Discussions are not a scripted program or set of rigid discussion prompts. They are a flexible framework for designing meaningful human interaction through intentional dialogue. What makes these discussion different is its emphasis on the architecture of conversation itself: the roles learners hold, the way interactions are structured, how thinking is documented, and how understanding is deepened collectively over time. Rather than focusing on participation for compliance, these discussions are designed to cultivate authentic contribution, identity, agency, belonging, and thoughtful engagement across diverse learning and community spaces.

WHAT CHANGES BECAUSE OF IT

Enbrighten® Dinner Table Discussions help shift environments from passive participation and surface-level interaction toward deeper thinking, authentic contribution, and meaningful human connection. As dialogue becomes more intentional, people begin to feel more seen, valued, heard, and empowered to share ideas, ask questions, and think alongside others. Over time, this changes not only the quality of conversations, but also the culture itself, strengthening the collective capacity to learn and grow together.

Learning Labs

Learning lab experiences create space for participants to collaboratively explore ideas, test new practices, reflect on evidence, and learn from authentic experiences in real time.
